Сystic calculi — foreign masses in the bladder, making it difficult to urinate.
In most cases, cystic calculi are formed in old age and it is a secondary problem that arises because of poor outflow of urine with prostate adenoma, prostate cancer, urethral stricture, etc.
Gradually increasing in size, the stones more and more complicate urination and support the infectious inflammatory process in the urinary tract. Due to the attachment of a microbial infection, bladder stones can be complicated by pyelonephritis, an inflammation of the kidneys. When the stone is infringed in the area of neck of urinary bladder, acute urination may occur. Because of the trauma of the dilated venous vessels of the neck of the bladder, severe bleeding can develop – profuse total hematuria.
Symptoms of сystic calculi
The patient experiences too frequent and sharp urge to urinate during physical exertion or shaking, feels the need to go to the toilet at night. Urination is accompanied by painful sensations, in the last portion of urine a drop of blood is possible. A characteristic feature of stones in the bladder is the so-called “urine stream” symptom: the jet is suddenly interrupted and restored only after the position of the body has changed.
Detection of сystic calculi
Usually enough ultrasound (ultrasound), which allows you to visualize the area of the bladder and determine in it concrements.
Treatment of сystic calculi
The proper treatment is not only the removing calculus from the bladder, but also to eliminate the reason that led to their formation. Usually, it is prostate adenoma, prostate cancer or urethral stricture. The current endoscopic technique allows to pass into the bladder through the urethra, to remove the adenoma laser (also a tumor or stricture) and simultaneously to fragment the stones. Then, the stones broken to fine particles are washed with a liquid flow. The duration of the operation depends on the number of stones removed, but takes no more than an hour. The patient’s stay in the hospital about three-five days.
