A uterine fibroid, located in the muscular layer of the organ, is a benign neoplasm encountered by 70% of women of reproductive age. Older concepts considered fibroids as tumors, but modern research tends to classify them as tumor-like formations. On average, fibroids are found in 20% of women over the age of 30 and in 40% of women over the age of 40. The age-related risks of developing fibroids significantly increase between the ages of 25 and 50 due to elevated levels of female sex hormones.
The next step in the development of minimally invasive gynecology at the JSC "National Scientific Medical Center" will be the implementation of the uterine fibroid radiofrequency ablation technique. The scientific-practical seminar held on May 22, 2024, introduced this innovative technique, which is entirely new for Kazakhstan. The uterine fibroid radiofrequency ablation technique has already proven its effectiveness and gained recognition among gynecologists in developed countries. The seminar featured Dr. Giovanni Turtulici, a leading expert from the European Union in the field of interventional radiology in gynecology.
Radiofrequency ablation is a method of directly destroying tissue using thermal exposure. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and has numerous advantages, such as minimal invasiveness, high therapeutic effect, low complication rate, short rehabilitation period, and complete preservation of the organ.
